The Beginning of Alchemy

To unlock alchemy you must talk to Clotho who is found in the center of The Swamp during the Day.

Processing

Before making use of any items in alchemy, you've got to research them on the study table. This shows their decomposition products ("decomposes into"). It can be in the form of a powder, solution, or extract, even combinations are possible.

Each form requires a different machine to process it:

• Powders are produced by the alchemy mill.
• Solutions are produced by the hand mixer.
• Extracts are produced by the distillation cube.

When you've acquired the scientist perk, every machine yields one extra decomposition product per item processed.

After unlocking zombies, the usage of a zombie alchemy decomposer is possible to produce all three forms of substances.

Elements

Currently, there are eight known elements that are matched in pairs. Health/Toxic, Order/Chaos, Acceleration/Slowness, and Life/Death. Substances are processed in many ways, but a substance can only have one element.

Other Ingredients

Besides element substances there are other powders and liquids used in alchemy. Besides of the source mentioned in the table, they can all be also be created by using 4×goo of the related type in the related machine (hand mixer for liquids and alchemy mill for powders)

Alchemy Workbench (Tier I)

The alchemy workbench (tier I) combines two ingredients, mostly powder and solution, in rare cases two liquids. To find useful alchemical combinations, one must experiment through trial and error.

A combination that does not produce a useful resource creates 1×goo. The type of goo hints what should be used instead of one of the ingredients. You've got to guess, if the first or the second one was wrong.

Alchemy Workbench (Tier II)

The alchemy workbench (tier II) combines three ingredients: powder, solution, and extract, with the possibility to replace the solution or the extract by additional ingredients like alcohol or oil. There are significantly more possible combinations with an added ingredient, and thus more particular applications.

Failed reactions create 2×goo. The types of goo hint, that if you keep one of the three ingredients and replace the other two by the related ingredients, you'll get a working recipe. You still have to guess, which one to keep and how to replace the others, but it narrows down the possibilities quite considerably. Check the goo page for more details.

Note: It is not possible to craft the recipes from the tier I workbench here and leave the third slot empty.

Alchemy for Embalming

If you want to embalm your corpses to maximize the number of , you will need to use the following injections:
